1979 Valiant 40

19 October, 2012 by EVAN

About this Sailboat:

Destiny recently made a single-handed four day passage from Beaufort, NC to Quantico, VA where she now resides. During the 2-day off-shore passage she encountered severe foul weather. She handled it with no difficulty but due to the constantly shifting winds, she motor-sailed through all but 3 hours of the trip. Coming up the Chesapeake the winds were becalmed and I was forced to transit the length of the Chesapeake and Potomac under engine power. In all, the Perkins ran approximately 45 hours at 2(# removed) rms. She burned about 40 gallons of fuel and a pint of oil. As well, there were system or component failures or problems during the trip.

The sale offers an opportunity to own a legendary blue water cruiser at a reduced price for someone looking for a minimally equipped sailboat. Purchased five years ago from the original owners, she immediately underwent upgrades and repairs to her plumbing, electrical, drive systems, and bottom. She has since been used in local waters. Unexpected career opportunities have precluded her use as originally planned and drives this sale; a final re-assignment guarantees at least two years of inactivity and we would rather let her go to someone that will use her than watch her sit in a yard unused. Valiants are legendary performance cruisers that are meant to be on the open sea. The link provides general information about the Valiant brand:
Destiny like any boat, especially an older one – is a continuous work in progress. She is a not perfect and still requires certain upgrades and replacements and is priced accordingly especially compared to other Valiant 40s currently on the market. We will continue to work on her, resources and time permitting. Your interest is welcomed; we are very eager to sell. All reasonable offers will be considered Please email for any questions you may have:
