  1. 1974 Westsail Sailboat

    January 5, 2013 by EVAN

    About this Sailboat:

Kirian was bought in 2006 by my wife and I. We gave it a new bottom job and did the sides with awlgrip. Replaced some of the teak toe rails, took down the rudder gave some touch ups and rehung it. Put in a new skipper head, manual. We put a new 2007 Yanmar 4JH4AE 54 hsp, along with new shaft prop, and dripless stuffing box. It’s horse power is overkill for the size of the boat…but it sure has been nice a few times too. The engine is light at 500# and pretty economical. It burns about 1/2 gallon an hour at 16rpm but if drops to a 1/4 gallon an hour at 14 rpms. Have the parts book and manual for it. . Engine is wonderful, never had any problem and has been kept clean and timely maintenance with regular oil and filter changes. Also, installed Raymarine C series Radar and Chart plotter, bought the San disk for Mid America Caribbean, and ST1000 Tiller Pilot. Installed an Air X wind turbine, and Solar Panel. Also, bought a new Standard Horizon VHF fixed and handheld. The handheld has built in GPS. Don’t have Epirb but do have a Spot Messenger.
We left the states in the beginning of 2009 and sailed to the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rica and the US Virgin Islands, we then sailed to Bocas del Toro, Panama. We lived and worked there for two and half years. We are back in the states now, but Kirian is still in Panama. We have our boat in a very safe and secure marina near Bocas. We did some upgrades to the boat before we left it.
We had new teak handrails made for the deck, new topside paint and non skid. Redid the teak decks on the fore deck. Put in a cabin hatch, a low profile lewmar, on the port side on top of cabin. Installed a new solar fan in the hatch above the V-berth. Had custom made teak shelves made for the head and slide for the companionway. The boat was left in clean and good condition. Kirian is being checked upon often and having some regular maintenance done and running the engine.

    Equipment on Board:

Equipment list is long but here is most…2007 Yanmar 4JH4AE 54 hsp, Raymarine C series Radar and Chart plotter, Air X wind turbine, and Solar Panel, Standard Horizon VHF fixed and handheld. The handheld has built in GPS, Spot Messenger, Iridium satellite phone, standard depth finder, rocna anchor, plow anchor and danforth. 150 feet of 3/8 chain and 50 feet with 150 feet of rode attached to other side. Wonderful manual all bronze windlass, 15hp Yamaha outboard, 9.5 hp johnson, 9 ft Avon hard bottom inflatable dinghy, More things to list….

    Vessel’s History.

On her return to Sarnia and fresh waters, she was
seen in the North Channel for a number of years into
the mid ’80s. Since then she became more of a day-
sailor, a floating cottage and a place for the
grand kids to spend on overnighters.

Vessel is located at the Sarnia (Ontario) Yacht Club on dock 4 and can be seen anytime. She will be sold, AS IS, WHERE IS. There is no recent survey.

    Equipment on Board:
