  3. 1974 Seafarer 34′ Sloop

    December 23, 2012 by EVAN

    About this Sailboat:

Original owner, approaching 70, lost interest, time to move on, but with difficulty after all of those years. Boat was used mostly in mid 70s to mid 80s in middle Chesapeake Bay, in the Solomons Island area north and south.
    .
Overall the boat has been reliable and enjoyable over the years, even though little used after the mid -1980s. Because it is a 1974 boat, it does not have the bells and whistles of newer boats, but it has the basics with several additions and improvements. Because of the teak and other wood trim there is more maintenance that the “all plastic” newer boats. The owner should be comfortable with such maintenance and be a little handy, which ,by the way, is required on all boats. In my view, however, a boat needs to have good lines and good looks, and this one has both. Many newer boats that may have more bells and whistles, cannot make such a claim! As such, my boat is appropriately priced and available for a new owner’s enjoyment and adventure.

    Equipment on Board:

o McCurdy & Rhodes design w/ flared bow and raised & raked stern.
    o Draft – 5′ 3″, Beam 10″, LOA / LOD 33′ 9″
    o Berths (6) – 2 V berth, 3 main salon, 1 pilot
o Sails (4) – Double reefed mail, working jib, storm jib, anchor riding sail

    o Propellers – (2) – 2 & 3 bladed propellers
o Pedestal steering w/ varnished walnut & ss wheel., w / covered compass.
    o Electronics –
. Two Marine VHS Radios – three antennas (two on mast head, one emergency on stern.
. Wind speed & apparent wind direction instruments (new)
    . Depth finder
. Knot meter & distance log
. Wempe – brass ships clock and barometer,
    . Tide time clock
    . Emergency strobe masthead light
    . Spreader lights
    . Shore power – Hubbell, w/ 50′ marine cord
