  3. 1979 San Juan Sloop

    October 19, 2012 by EVAN

    About this Sailboat:

    San Juan 28
Longshot is hull # 130 built in New Bern, NC. She is an attractive San Juan 28 that has been customized over the years to yield a great mid-sized racer/cruiser. Longshot has been owned by knowledgeable racing sailors who have competed quite well with her 4′ 6″ fin keel and spade rudder; her NCPHRF is 177. The San Juan is known to be easily driven in light air but will really accelerate when the breeze picks up. The tiller has been replaced with pedestal wheel steering. The steering pedestal has been customized with a beautiful teak cockpit table and 4 stainless steel and teak drink holders.

    Equipment on Board:

The wheel is fitted with Autohelm auto pilot. Longshot has two sets of sails; for racing, she is equipped with a 140% Mylar roller furling genoa and a Mylar mainsail. A spinnaker with spinnaker pole is included as well as a whisker pole. All lines are led aft to be controlled from the cockpit. For cruising, she has a new roller furling working jib and a Dacron mainsail. A new depth sounder was recently installed on the starboard cabin bulk head; a knot meter is on the port bulkhead. There are two heavy duty batteries with isolation switch and an automatic battery charger. There is also a solar panel to keep the batteries topped up. Propulsion is provided by a reliable 15 hp Yanmar diesel engine which is in very good working condition; it looks good and runs great. The propeller is a new Martec folding prop which offers greatly reduced resistance when the engine is turned off. The Martec prop folds automatically so no action is required by captain or crew. Fuel capacity is 40 gallons of diesel fuel. Water capacity is 20 gallons with a pressure water system and a water heater to provide hot water for the shower in the head. A custom made “strapless” bimini has been fabricated for protection from the sun; the bimini has no cumbersome straps to get in the way while moving around the boat. The decks have been newly repainted along with the port light frames and the teak has been newly varnished. Longshot is a well kept example of a San Juan 28 that is ready to go racing and or cruising and is being offered at $22,500.
