  1. 2003 Escape Rumba SmartRig

    October 19, 2012

    About this Sailboat:

2003 Escape Rumba in good shape.
We’ve had great fun with this boat. It’s easy to sail: great for beginners to learn on, but more experienced people will get a thrill at the speed it can reach. This is an extremely safe boat (see details below). There are some minor scratches on hull from usual usage and the sail has a a few tears which can be repaired with sail repair tape or clear packing tape as recommended by manufacturer or replaced. We have been using it with the clear tape fix & it works fine.

Photos shown are without the rigging set-up, but I have them. More photos available for serious inquiries, please contact me if interested.

    Equipment on Board:

    Hull
    • Easily transported on a car top or trailer, the hull is one piece roto-molded polyethylene with no seams to open. This creates a durable, light weight boat that can take the punishment of beach sailing, grounding, or being dragged along the shore.
    • The wide body design makes the Rumba extremely stable. The Stableform hull design making it 3X less likely to capsize than a traditional sailboat – you’ll spend more time sailing and less time swimming!
    • When the wind picks up, the rounded sides offer a great platform to hike out for ultimate speed and performance. The Rumba is one of the most versatile high performance small sailboats ever designed. It combines race boat performance and the ability to sail at a gentler pace.
    • The forward cockpit provides lots of space, and the aft cockpit features sculptured bucket seats with excellent lower back support, so you can sit, and be very comfortable in light breezes. The cockpit is also self-draining, with drink holders and mast step.
    Sail Plan
    • The Rumba features the SmartRig sail plan with roller reefing on the mast, usually found only in much larger boats. When you want to deploy the sail, simply pull the outhaul line and the sail unrolls. To stow the sail, pull on the furling line and the sail easily rolls up on the mast again. This also means the sail is easily adjusted to any size necessary for wind conditions. If it’s really blowing, reduce sail area. If the wind is light, pull it out all the way. The sail sleeves over the two piece mast eliminating the need for halyards, and is controlled by a single mainsheet.
    • Family groups and larger people will appreciate this boat’s performance. Quickly gets up to speed in the lightest of winds yet the powerful sail is easily tamed by the ability to instantly roll away the sail on its SmartRig.
    • The race-inspired sail built for performance and durability is also transparent to allow safe navigation. The two piece mast and boom are easy to store, but securely lock into the boat during use.
    Centerboard/Rudder
    • The Rumba has a swing up centerboard tensioned with a shock cord. If you happen to sail into water too shallow, the shock cord will allow the board will swing up until you float past the obstruction, then you can easily return the board to the down position.
    • The rudder has a spring loaded head which acts the same way. With a board/rudder up draft of less than 3 1/2 inches, there’s never a reason to worry about sailing into shallow water.
    • The kick-up center board and rudder let you get on and off the water quickly.

  5. 2000 escape rumba

    October 5, 2011

    About this Sailboat:

This is a terriffic 12 foot sailboat that goes like the wind and is stable enough to have coffee on while sailing. It features a hard unsinkable polypropoline body and a transparant roller furling sail. It slao come with a nearly new trailer. The boat weighs about 125 so is easily managed by one person, but it holds two or three when sailing. Its easy to sail since the sails rolls up within seconds and you’re off the wind. It’s easy to launch as it only drawn inches of water and the swing keel goes down easily and comes up with the slightest bump against the sand. I am selling because I got the bug now and want a bigger boat. If interested, email me or call (# removed). This link goes to a site that demonstrates how the boat sails. http://www.sailingtexas.com/cboats99escape.html
