About this Sailboat:
Chrysler Marine built this Halsey Herreshoff designed swing keel / swing rudder masthead sloop from 1975 to 1978 specifically as a family day sailor, overnighter, racer, easily handled and sailed by a single person or full crew.
As one of the finest trailerable cruisers, she has a strong following with an on-line support group for good reason. Shes easily trailered and is one of the most stable sailing 22 footers built. With an easily managed swing keel at its minimum, draft is 1 11, at its maximum 46 and weights in at a substantial 825 lbs. Ive found the generous ballast makes the Sandpiper safer and far more capable in heavy air than other boats in her class.
The masthead rig sail plan with a hank-on head sail is uncomplicated and easily handled. With the single reef main sail, sailors at every level of experience have options for handling many different sailing conditions.
I have a good deal of documentation for the Sandpiper as well as there being a vast amount of information available at http://chryslersailors.com and youtube. The mast is designed to be raised and lowered by two people, which helps keep maintenance costs affordable. I have extra pictures available for the asking. Call Bob (# removed)
Equipment on Board:
Hull/ Deck: Good condition with no soft spots. Safety features include Bow and stern rails with life lines and a stern mounted boarding ladder. The stainless steel rudder assembly has been inspected, reconditioned and is ready for years of service. All exterior wood was refinished last Fall and this Spring.
Sails: A main with one reef point and working jib are in good condition
Outboard: Johnson 6hp long shaft is a great looking dependable little power house which has a near-new carburetor. Johnson Outboard in Rowayton, CT serviced it for the summer season in March. Also comes equipped with a 3 gallon fuel tank and new fuel line fittings. Also comes with an adjustable assisted-lift outboard motor bracket.
Rigging: Mast was taken down at summers end last year and inspected. The headstay and fittings were replaced from the top of the mast to the bow fitting. A heavier than original bow fitting was installed. Shrouds and backstay appear to be in good condition. The running rigging is in good or new condition.
Cabin and Cockpit: Spacious comfortable cockpit for up to 4 day sailors with lazarette sail storage to starboard and additional storage to port. The cockpit has huge scuppers (drains) with a nice enclosed compartment to both hide and protect your fuel tank. Has a clean simple cabin interior which feels good when sheltering you from the elements. The curtains and cushions are in good condition. Featured is a drop-down table that allows for more convenient seating or additional sleeping. Forward under the birth is a clean near-new port-a-pottie. The cabin lighting is ample and in good working order. Both the companionway and forward hatch are huge. I cannot say how nice these are in making the cabin easy to access as well as adding plenty of light and fresh air when you want it.
Electronics: Comes with a VHF marine radio wired to a masthead antenna. Nice illuminated Airguide compass. Almost all the electrical system was replaced and upgraded. Has a brand new electrical panel with waterproof switches and outlet to plug in accessories. All navigation lights work and are ready for safe night sailing. New masthead windex. One 12 volt battery
Additional equipment: Davis Tiller Tamer, Cockpit cushions, dock lines, fenders, throw cushions, life jackets, boat pole, Air horn.
