About this Sailboat:
Nonsuch yachts were built between 1977 and 1996 by George Hinterholler, formerly of C C yachts of Canada, and conceived by Gordon Fisher, a former commodore of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, together with yacht designer Mark Ellis. The design philosophy was to create a yacht that was sturdily built, and fast, that could not only take the family cruising in comfort but also one that could be raced without a crew. The rig design is brilliantly simple with only one sail to handle.
Nonsuch are well regarded and very popular in North America with over 950 yachts built and an active international owners association. They have become a favourite of ex-racers and cruisers who are looking for comfort and the ability to sail short-handed. A plumb-bow, wide beam and a cambered house-top create a roomy interior with accommodation equal to a standard yacht several feet longer, and fitted out to a very high standard. Katina is hull #65 out of 67 and hence one of the last Nonsuch 33s built. She was commissioned by the current owner from new, a renowned yachtsman and one of the earliest to circumnavigate the globe with his family in an old wooden classic. No expense was spared in fitting her with all the factory upgrades, not often found on other Nonsuch 33s. She is equally at home in the tropics or more northerly latitudes, having excellent ventilation and heating, and all the creature comforts. The master cabin is forward with heads that serve both the cabin and saloon, together with a double berth under the cockpit, and a large dining saloon that can also convert into a double berth.
After Katina left the yard in 1993, she was sailed to the Caribbean where she has cruised for a number of years, before a return trip to North America and back to the tropics again. For the last few years she has been used mainly for day sailing and weekend breaks. Always professionally maintained from new this yacht is in excellent condition and welcomes any inspection. Currently lying in Antigua the yachting hub of the Caribbean and one of the finest cruising grounds on the world.
