About this Sailboat:
This is hull # 199. Current owners are the third, and have sailed her exclusively in the Chesapeake Bay for the past 16 years. She has been hauled every winter and covered. Continuously maintained, Mani has been cruised by a family and much loved. She is reluctantly for sale since the owners have purchased a larger boat for more extended cruising.
Manis teak has been continuously maintained by her current owners. Her hull has never been painted and has been hand waxed yearly to maintain her remarkable sheen a source of great pride to her skipper. Although she has a few wrinkles, we think she is remarkably handsome for a vessel her age, and we are continuously appreciative for the gorgeous lines drawn by Carl Alberg and built by Cape Dory.
More importantly, she is a remarkably safe, sturdy design that can take you anywhere you wish in the Chesapeake. In many anchorages we have been the smallest and probably least expensive boat, but that did not stop captains of much more prestigious yachts from giving us an appreciative nod as they motored by and mouthing nice boat.
Equipment on Board:
The Cape Dory 28 sleeps 5, with a slide-out double berth to port in the main cabin, a single berth to starboard, and large vee berth in the forward cabin. There is a generous amount of storage located in lockers under both the forward bunks and berths in the main cabin. The galley straddles the companionway. The head is mid ships to port and a large hanging locker is opposite to starboard. A folding dining table can be removed and stowed in the hanging locker.
– Fold-out custom made teak counter extensions expand the work space in the galley.
Sails and Rigging:
Sloop rig with aluminum deck-stepped mast. Standing rigging replaced in 2001. Full batten main with heavy cruising cloth made by Hood Sails. Three reef points and rigged jiffy reef system. All running rigging updated continuously and in good shape. Original jib self-tending boom replaced with Harken roller furling.
