About this Sailboat:
Apollonia is a very beautiful classic yawl with gracious lines guaranteed to turn heads wherever she is moored. She has recently competed in a number of Classic regattas with class wins in both Antigua and Grenada.
Built by John De Dood in Germany in 1963 to a design by Bill Tripp the distinguished 1960s American yacht designer who is remembered for drawing very pretty boats that sailed better than their ratings would suggest.
Originally named Wappen Von Bremen she was built as one of three one-design sister ships commissioned by sailing clubs in Hamburg and Bremen and completed in a number of Atlantic races.
She is built of double planked mahogany over cedar on oak frames with manganese bronze fastenings, teak soles on oak floors, teak laid decks over laminated marine plywood, and has an exquisitely fitted mahogany interior.
Her accommodation down below provides five berths in two forward cabins with a single head forward and a spacious saloon and galley.
Regrettably her owner passed away earlier this year, leaving a little interior finishing of the fore-cabins to be completed, and Apollonia is now seriously for sale at a fraction of the cost of the restoration works already undertaken.
She represents a wonderful opportunity for a new owner who is willing to complete the remaining interior finishing and cruise the Caribbean islands and beyond in a timeless elegant yacht also eligible to enter the exclusive Classic Regatta circuit.
Apollonia is currently lying in Grenada. Please contact me for further details of the specification and the restoration. A recent survey is also available on request.
Equipment on Board:
Following damage sustained during a hurricane, Apollonia was bought by a professional shipwright and has undergone a fifteen year total restoration back to her former glory under the supervision of a Lloyds surveyor.
During the restoration the majority of the hull planking and most of the frames were replaced, together with all the soles and bearers, the cockpit, coamings, the entire deck, bulkheads and interior fittings.
The spars have been replaced with painted aluminium, and she has been re-rigged and fitted with a new suite of cruising sails.
She has a recent Kubota 73hp diesel engine and is fitted with a suite of Simrad/Garmin sailing instruments and autopilot.
